The Promises of God…

There are hundreds, if not thousands of promises given to us in God’s word. Here are a few of those He has given to me over the years:

Given after realizing that the music ministry was not my calling, Joshua 1:9: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go."

Given when the Lord placed me in charge of the ushering and counseling ministry for the Maranatha! Concerts, Proverbs 22:19-21: “So that your trust may be in the LORD; I have instructed you today, even you. Have I not written to you excellent things Of counsels and knowledge, That I may make you know the certainty of the words of truth, That you may answer words of truth To those who send to you?”

Given upon entering the full time ministry in 1979, Psalms 91:14-15: “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him.”

Given for my daughters (unknown to me, the same promise was given to my wife for my daughters exactly 10 years earlier), Isaiah 44:3: “For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, And floods on the dry ground; I will pour My Spirit on your descendants, And My blessing on your offspring.”

Given while praying about re-entering the full time ministry, Hebrews 6:10, 15: “For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister…And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.” (Within a year, I would be back in the full time ministry).

Given after discovering a lump in my groin, Job 5:26-27, 16:22: “You shall come to the grave at a full age, As a sheaf of grain ripens in its season. Behold, this we have searched out;It is true. Hear it, and know for yourself…For when a few years are finished, I shall go the way of no return.” (The lump proved to be benign).

Given just before starting our new building addition, Isaiah 54:2-3: “Enlarge the place of your tent, And let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings; Do not spare; Lengthen your cords, And strengthen your stakes. For you shall expand to the right and to the left, And your descendants will inherit the nations, And make the desolate cities inhabited.” (Within two months of starting construction on our addition, we bought the property to the right of us – we are praying for the property to out left – and believing God to provide).

These are just a few of the more that 50 personal promises given to me over the last 34 years.

I like to write the date next to the promise given to me by the Lord in the Word. Honestly, there was a time in my life when I was so discouraged that I erased out all the promises He had give me over the years. And yet, so far, He has fulfilled all that He has promised; and His past performance is always a guarantee of His future performance.

We would like to hear from you regarding some of the promises He has given you from the word…

Isai 51:11 (KJS) Therefore the redeemed of the LORD shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy [shall be] upon their head: they shall obtain gladness and joy; [and] sorrow and mourning shall flee away.

1Pet 1:6 (KJS) Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:
7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see [him] not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
9 Receiving the end of your faith, [even] the salvation of [your] souls.

Phil 4:6 (KJS) Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if [there be] any praise, think on these things. {honest: or, venerable}

Psal 138:7 (KJS) Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me: thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and thy right hand shall save me.

John 14:1 (KJS) Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

John 14:27 (KJS) Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

2Cor 4:8 (KJS) [We are] troubled on every side, yet not distressed; [we are] perplexed, but not in despair; {in despair: or, altogether without help, or, means}
9 Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;

Hebr 10:35 (KJS) Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.
36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

Phil 1:6 (KJS) Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform [it] until the day of Jesus Christ: {perform: or, finish}

Gala 6:9 (KJS) And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

Psal 31:24 (KJS) Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD.

Psal 27:1 (KJS) [A Psalm] of David. The LORD [is] my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD [is] the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When the wicked, [even] mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. {came...: Heb. approached against me}
3 Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this [will] I [be] confident.
4 One [thing] have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple. {the beauty: or, the delight}
5 For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.
6 And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD. {joy: Heb. shouting}
7 Hear, O LORD, [when] I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me.
8 [When thou saidst], Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek. {When...: or, My heart said unto thee, Let my face seek thy face, etc}
9 Hide not thy face [far] from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.
10 When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up. {take...: Heb. gather me}
11 Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies. {a plain...: Heb. a way of plainness} {mine...: Heb. those which observe me}
12 Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty.
13 [I had fainted], unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.
14 Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

Well one stands out in my mind...

I was severly depressed one day --I had thought this "Christian thing" would be easy..I was up against many hurdles early in my faith..I felt defeated and uncertain of the future.
As I was in desperation He gave me Jeremiah 1:5
It was as if it just appeared in front of my forehead (I don't want to sound Charismatic!)
I had never even read from that book yet-I was saved only a short time-maybe 2 years..
So I went and looked it up and there was a peace that came on me and I always remember that before I was in the womb He knew me--He chose me (hence Chosen4Him). I think He reveals things to me about people and situations.. insight that maybe can be called Prophetic. With this verse it encouraged my evangelism..in the Power of His Spirit.
That was the first promise He gave me..there have been more but that one stands out because it was the first.
Okie,
Thats a pretty impressive walk with the Lord.
Thanks for sharing.
I have enjoyed learning more about you!

Chosen4Him: I stand in awe of the grace of God towards one such as me. I agree completely with brother Paul:

"To me, who am less than the least of all the saints, this grace was given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ." (Ephesians 3:8)

I came across this verse today in my devotional book,

Psalm 145:13
The Lord is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made.

The simple truth to that is
It is impossible for God to break his promises. He and His word are the same.

Mary,

God is faithful and true...

You Lord are faithful, faithful and true, faithful to love us.
You Lord are faithful, faithful and true.
When there comes a time I falter-I call upon Your Name. And I know that you are faithful, to remove my guilt and shame.
You Lord are faithful. Faithful and true, faithful to love us.
You Lord are faithful, faithful and true.
Faithful and true.

Will be back Monday...
God Bless.

Ryan: I've certainly got an odd sense of humor. Someone once said, "Take your work seriously, but don't take yourself seriously." I love being a pastor and I love the ministry. When the Spirit speaks to another heart, to see them understand, it just blows me away.

I love what Spurgeon said: "Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ.” (Ephesians 3:8). The apostle Paul felt it a great privilege to be allowed to preach the gospel. He did not look upon his calling as a drudgery, but he entered upon it with intense delight. Yet while Paul was thus thankful for his office, his success in it greatly humbled him.

The fuller a vessel becomes, the deeper it sinks in the water. Idlers may indulge a fond conceit of their abilities, because they are untried; but the earnest worker soon learns his own weakness. If you seek humility, try hard work; if you would know your nothingness, attempt some great thing for Jesus.

If you would feel how utterly powerless you are apart from the living God, attempt especially the great work of proclaiming the unsearchable riches of Christ, and you will know, as you never knew before, what a weak unworthy thing you are. Although the apostle thus knew and confessed his weakness, he was never perplexed as to the subject of his ministry. From his first sermon to his last, Paul preached Christ, and nothing but Christ.

He lifted up the cross, and extolled the Son of God who bled thereon. Follow his example in all your personal efforts to spread the glad tidings of salvation, and let “Christ and him crucified” be your ever recurring theme. The Christian should be like those lovely spring flowers which, when the sun is shining, open their golden cups, as if saying, “Fill us with thy beams!” but when the sun is hidden behind a cloud, they close their cups and droop their heads.

So should the Christian feel the sweet influence of Jesus; Jesus must be his sun, and he must be the flower which yields itself to the Sun of Righteousness. Oh! to speak of Christ alone, this is the subject which is both “seed for the sower, and bread for the eater.” This is the live coal for the lip of the speaker, and the master-key to the heart of the hearer.
